In 1853, the Scott Family donated a plot of ground on Garrett Mill Road for a small public school called Shady Grove. By the 1880's, a bigger school house was needed, so in 1881, the original 1853 school was replaced by a larger version with "Willistown School No. 6" inscribed in its gable end. The school is typical of the one-room public schools built in rural areas in the second half of the 19th century. Today, it is part of the private residence at 959 Garrett Mill Road.
